The University of Texas Jazz Orchestra

Directed by Professor Jeff Hellmer, the UT Jazz Orchestra is the School of Music’s premiere jazz ensemble. The Jazz Orchestra has performed with such luminaries as Michael Brecker, Phil Woods, Bob Brookmeyer, Conrad Herwig, and James Moody in recent years. The ensemble’s repertoire often features compositions of its members.


(Alternative Improvisation Music Ensemble)

AIME is a select jazz ensemble of six to ten members performing unique repetoire that encompasses a wide variety of styles. Members of the ensemble compose the repetoire which emphasizes extended improvisation.

Jazz Ensemble

Jazz Ensemble is an excellent undergraduate big band dedicated to the great large jazz ensemble repertory.  UT Jazz Ensemble also frequently premiers new works and arrangements from student composers.

Jazz Combos

Jazz Combos provide an opportunity for students to develop their improvisational skills in a small group setting. Combos range in size from four to ten members. Previous jazz experience is required to join a jazz combo.
