Longhorn Jazz Festival 2018 with Conrad Herwig

We had a great weekend of activities and concerts for Longhorn Jazz Festival. All of the high school jazz band competitors were phenomenal and the great Conrad Herwig held a wonderful masterclass filled with inspiring stories, advice, and perspective about music performance and practice. The UT Jazz Orchestra topped things off with a fantastic concert of student composition premiers and a special set of Mr. Herwig’s music specially arranged by student and faculty composers featuring Conrad himself as soloist and leader.

Jazz Orchestra and AIME to Europe!

The UT Jazz Orchestra and AIME had a successful ten-day tour of Europe this summer, performing at the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 2 and 3, at Luxembourg Gardens in Paris on July 6, and at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam on July 8. In addition to big band standards, the programs featured compositions and arrangements by UT students Sarah Milligan, Bryan Kennard, Chase Goldman, and Ari Burns, and by UT professor John Mills. Members of the groups also heard (and sometimes met) many of the greats in jazz, especially at the North Sea festival. Pictures can be found under the “media gallery” tab on this web site, or at the UT Jazz Facebook page. Thanks to everyone that supported the trip!
